Mary Aloe tells us that the Black List script from Max Borenstein is based on Kenneth Feinberg’s memoir. Feinberg, a powerful DC insider lawyer, was put in charge of the 9/11 Fund. He spent almost three years, pro bono, on the case, fighting off the cynicism, bureaucracy and politics associated with administering government funds to victims’ families — and in doing so, discovered what life is worth.

Michael Sugar (Spotlight) will produce alongside Marc Butan, Sean Sorensen, Max Borenstein, Bard Dorros, Anthony Katagas and Keaton. Deepak Nayar, Nik Bower, Andrea Scarso, Amit Pandya, and Stephen Spence will executive produce alongside Allen Liu, Ara Keshishian, Kim Fox, Charles Miller and Edward Fee. In addition, Dean Buchanan, Matthew B. Schmidt, Mary Aloe, and Michael Becker will executive produce alongside Christina Papagjika and Matthew Salloway.

Shunori Ramanathan and Victor Slezak also recently joined “What Is Life Worth.” Spotlight’s Michael Sugar is producing alongside MadRiver Pictures’ Marc Butan, Sean Sorensen, Borenstein, Bard Dorros and Keaton. Kim Fox will exec produce along with Riverstone’s Nik Bower and Deepak Nayar. Riverstone and Ingenious are financing, along with Peter Touche Andrea Scarso, Mary Aloe, Dean Buchanan, Matthew B. Schmidt, and Michael Becker executive producing. IMR International is handling worldwide sales; UTA and ICM Partners are on domestic.

Mary Aloe, executive producer, Aloe Entertainment, Sony Pictures and Vertical Entertainment are pleased to announce the cable and theatrical releases of 55 STEPS, which stars two-time Oscar nominee Helena Bonham Carter (“The Wings of the Dove,” “King’s Speech,” “The Crown”), two-time Oscar winner/two-time Golden Globe winner Hilary Swank (“Million Dollar Baby,” “Boys Don’t Cry”). The film is directed by Bille August and written by Mark Rosin. Last year 55 STEPS was in competition at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film will be released via all cable networks on October 16, 2018 and theatrically on November 16, 2018.

55 STEPS tells the true story of pro bono lawyer Colette Hughes (Hilary Swank) who, when she goes to meet her new client, Eleanor Riese (Helena Bonham Carter), a patient in the psychiatric unit of a San Francisco hospital, has no idea that, aside from taking on an uphill legal battle to improve treatment for mental patients in hospitals, she is meeting a woman who will make it her mission to transform Colette’s workaholic life and change the laws/rights for mentally ill patients forever.
